Socks and Carrot Cake

One toe-up sock done.

This sock was a challenge for me. I basically used Wendy's
toe-up pattern and Purly White's tutorial on yarn over short rows

This sock was almost entirely knitted during stupid helpful training sessions at my new job. I want to thank my coworkers for not calling me (to my face) the crazy knitting lady.  Here are some other views of my socky friends.

After several attempts to have a picot edge, both by hemming and a picot cast-off (one attempt that resulted in an entirely frogged sock out of frustration), I chose to use EZ sewn cast off and a rolled edge. Very comfy, and it doesn't seem to be falling down.

Yes, I'm continuing to wear one hand knit red sock and one commercial brown sock. Got a problem?

I'm also noticing, seemingly for the first time, how much the ladders really show. I'm really not going to let myself think about it.

This sock was not the "Socks" in the title to this post. I'm think of Sockapaloooza. I chose to sign up as an experienced sock knitter. When I received my sock pal's info yesterday I got a little scared. The above sock is my 5th handknit sock. Singular. As in I have now knit 2 and a half pair. I really hope my pal is happy with a simple sock that may have a few mistakes in it. I resist the urge to be overly perfectionistic with my handknits and I don't want to lose that when I first knit for someone I don't know.   On a happy note, my pal specifically asked for no red and orange socks, so at least I'm getting this color out of my system.

What about the carrot cake you say? January 31st was P (the kid's) 17th birthday and as per his request he got pizza and C baked him a carrot cake. From scratch. With 2 layers and homemade cream cheese frosting. This was Tuesday. Today is Thursday. When I put away the leftovers from dinner there were 3 slices of pizza left, and 3/4 of a carrot cake. C and I each had a small slice yesterday, and C brought a coworker a slice. There was still half of a 9" round cake. Keep in mind that P's girlfriend also brought him a small oreo cake. Yesterday P was at school for 6 hours, and ate lunch there. He was asleep when I got home from work at 5 and ate dinner with C and I. Yet, when I woke up this morning there was NO pizza and NO carrot cake. We have not had anyone over, and C assures me that he hasn't eaten any. This kid ate over the course of 3 or 4 hours half a cakes! equalling one whole cake and 3 slices of pizza and still had room for dinner!

Have I mentionned that I found out at the part on Saturday that P is 6"1 and weighs 134 lbs . . .I think that was a large part of my motivation to lose those 3 . . .I can't weight more than someone who is almost a foot taller than me.

On the weight note, I did something to my left calf and my lower back during spinning on Tuesday that has just manifested itself tonight. Thus I'm walking like a hunchback with a limp which C finds particularly sexy. Must go now and cast on for second sock so I have something to do during the boring invigorating training tomorrow. Rosedale sleeve is too big for travel now!

the sock looks lovely! have you washed it yet? if not, i bet that'll take care of the laddering. i too signed up for sockapalooza, and i'm a little intimidated now 'cause my sock giftee has published patterns...eek!

I love the sock! I've been really drawn to those colors lately myself.

Are you icing your calf down or anything like that? Maybe you can switch to some weight training stuff for a few days instead of cardio to let your calf heal?

When I met my ex-husband, we weighed the same: 135 lbs. Except I'm 5'2" and he's 6'1". And I think we were both lying (he was skinnier, and I was well, not so much).

I know what you mean about being a little intimidated by the sock exchange! I'm still very excited about knitting up something for you, despite the intimidation factor!

I really love that sock!
