I won

So last week or so I won a contest on the YoYo Knits.

Alyson sent me this:

Which contained this:

I love it!

So, I'm feeling much better today. Slept a lot last night and C and I went out to lunch and to get a new shade for our deck door. We are planning on going mountain biking tomorrow.

I've spent some time working on neatening my office and turning this

into this

It is some beautiful brown Cascade 220 Heathers destined to become the Bluebell Boatneck (warning: Ravelry link) from Fitted Knits . At the rate I've been knitting I decided casting on for a Fall sweater makes the most sense. Of course, given Murphy's Law this means I will finish this sweater while it is still hot out.

Also, yesterday C got a call from a headhunter about a possible interview for a position in Lowell, MA. Anyone have some thoughts on the area? I've been doing some research and it seems like a city that might be turning around. Last time I was there (probably late 1980s) it was pretty dodgy. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

One of my best friends went to UMass Lowell - she wants to move to western Mass, but likes Lowell enough to have stuck around a couple years since graduating. I've only been there once and it was a brief visit, so I don't have much to say about it, though I did get the impression it's a city where you'd want to careful about choosing a neighborhood. On the plus side, Classic Elite has an outlet store there, and you're likely to see wonderful things in chalk: http://www.myspace.com/projectbask

Mike was born in Lowell and grew up nearby. Although it is a city that has seen hard times, there are some really beautiful neighborhoods and you would be in an amazing area for fiber arts. The American Textile Museum is in Lowell, they have a great annual folk festival, and the Classic Elite outlet is an AMAZING place.

If you can both live and work in the area, I think you'd really enjoy it. I would advise against living in Lowell and trying to work in Boston - you can expect a daily commute of at least 1.5 hours (if you are lucky) each way.

You would also be very close to towns like Pelham, New Hampshire and Dracut, Massachusetts, which are right next to Lowell and are nice towns (Mike's family is there).

Oh - and New Hampshire? No sales tax. Yay.
